IDOT Maintenance Facility
The Iowa Department of Transportation’s new maintenance facility is a 32,000 sf precast concrete building used to maintain and store heavy road equipment. The building is comprised of storage bays, maintenance bays, wash bays, and employee offices. One of the building’s features is the in-floor radiant heating system with over five miles of piping in the slab-on-grade concrete. Three ceiling-mounted trolley hoist cranes to enable the owner to work on the heavy equipment. Woodruff worked in phases to get this project completed while the IDOT occupied adjacent buildings on site during construction. Once the new facility was complete, Woodruff demolished the existing maintenance building on site and turned it into parking for vehicles.
