Woodruff Construction offers three types of internships: field, superintendent, and project manager. Each internship experience is essential to prepare you for the next one.

  • PEER MENTORSHIP - Work alongside individuals to guide you through your internship, who’s goal is to help you learn and gain the best experience possible.

  • MEANINGFUL JOB ASSIGNMENTS - Contribute to impactful projects in our communities, and take on assignments that offer a glimpse into a fulfilling career at Woodruff.

  • TRAINING - You will receive on-the-job training while working alongside our team of talented professionals.

  • NETWORKING EVENT - You may be invited to various events in the community to network with other area interns, as well as company-sponsored events to get an inside look at our Woodruff culture.

  • EARN WHILE YOU LEARN - This is a paid internship at 40-hours a week

Field Intern

Get hands-on experience at the jobsite doing anything from demo to concrete to carpentry to steel erection.

Ideal for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors.

Superintendent Intern

Gain experience by assisting in all phases of the construction project, including coordinating workers, material, and equipment, You will ensure that specifications are being followed and work is proceeding safely, on schedule, and within budget. You may perform construction-related tasks as well.

Ideal for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.

Project Manager Intern

Gain experience building the project schedule, maintaining and updating the project status, taking necessary steps to achieve timely completion, and overseeing accurate and timely submittals. You will also manage project changes and keep the design team aware of important dates so the overall project remains on track.

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

Are you ready to take meaningful steps toward building your career? Do you have a curious mindset and a drive to learn? If you're proactive, eager to ask questions, and ready to take on new responsibilities, Woodruff Construction might be the perfect place for you!

  1. Apply online and interview with our Human Resources and Recruiting Coordinator.

  2. We will send offers

  3. Pre-employment screenings are required, and will be scheduled in early spring.

  4. Your internship orientation details will be sent to you via email.

  5. Attend your Day 1 Intern Orientation to ensure you're prepared for boots on the ground. Field and superintendent Interns will receive safety gear, a tool kit, and an overview of what to expect on the job site. Superintendent and project manager interns will also receive their IT equipment. You will fill out a survey of expectations and what you’re hoping to learn during your time with us.

  6. Day 2 of Intern Orientation includes a hands-on training at the warehouse for field and superintendent interns.

  7. Head to your assigned jobsite within your region and begin your internship! You'll work alongside superintendents, engineers, and skilled craft professionals. During this time, field and superintendent interns will gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas including carpentry, concrete pouring, steel work, and process piping. Project Manger interns will learn the ropes of cost reporting, submittals, scheduling, estimating, and more!

  8. Look forward to a variety of company events throughout the summer to familiarize yourself with our people and our culture.

  9. Come together at the end of the summer internship to share your experience, talk with Woodruff leadership, and celebrate all your hard work! We have an end-of-internship questionnaire to gather feedback on our program.

LOCATIONS

Woodruff places interns all across the state of Iowa, in one of our five regions - Fort Dodge, Ames, Tiffin, Waterloo and Spencer. While we won’t know exactly what jobsites you’ll be working on until your internship begins, we strongly consider your skills and learning goals to place you on a jobsite that we feel fits you best.
