Johnson County Rest Area

This project for the Iowa Department of Transportation replaced the old building and site furnishings at the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Exit 237. The new building was constructed of masonry clad with exterior porcelain tile and stucco. The interior of the building features stained glue-laminated wood beams and decking with artistically-patterned tile floors and walls in the main lobby and restrooms. Exterior shelters were constructed with steel tubing and decking with standing seam metal roof panels. New landscaping was installed with plantings, sod, and seed at the entire exterior. Artistic elements are visible throughout the site.

New rest area for eastbound travelers on I-80 near Iowa City, Iowa. The exterior features porcelain tile and stucco, new landscaping, and artistic elements.
